Introduction

The Audi R8 LMS Cup is a leading sprint race series in Asia. Action-packed racing, continuous innovations and a premium hospitality program have been exciting fans all across Asia. The world’s first one-make championship from the brand with the Four Rings enters its fifth season in 2016.

The competition features a wide range of top drivers such as former Formula One driver Alex Yoong of Malaysia, Cup champion in 2014 and 2015, Chinese motorsport star Cheng Congfu, runner-up 2015, and 2012 champion Marchy Lee of Hong Kong. Alongside the professionals, the field includes a healthy mix of passionate enthusiasts.

With races in China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Japan, Korea and the United Arab Emirates, the Cup competes on Asia’s premier circuits and plays a leading role in the development of regional motorsport.

The championship features the Audi R8 LMS, a GT3 car with more than 200 international race victories. It boasts a V10 engine and a lightweight, aluminum Audi Space Frame (ASF®). In 2016, the new generation Audi R8 LMS will make its debut in the Cup. The car shares around 50 percent of its technical base with the Audi R8 street car. At Audi, benefits from motorsport are translated directly to series production.

The Audi R8 LMS Cup is part of the Audi Sport customer racing Asia program and is organized by Audi China.  Audi Sport customer racing Asia offers motorsport enthusiasts a full range of services, from sports car experiences to race license courses and race–ready Audi R8 LMS Cup cars.

Eligible Drivers

Must be at least 16 years of age, holder of valid Competition License of grade “International C” or higher

Eligible Cars

Second generation cars and Cup cars which comply with the technical regulations

Race Format

  • 12 races at 6 race weekends (each race approx. 30 minutes)
  • Qualifying: 15 minutes Q1 followed by Superpole shoot-out for the top 8
  • Grid:
    1st Race – in order of the fastest time from Superpole, then fastest in Q1
    2nd Race – in order of the fastest lap time achieved by each driver in the first race
  • Start procedure:
    1st Race – Rolling start with a 2 x 2 formation
    2nd Race – Standing start with 1 x 1 formation

Points

After each race, the following points will be awarded to eligible drivers listed as classified finishers in the final official classification as follows:

  • Points will be awarded per the below table for all 4 championships(Overall, Amateur, Amateur+ and Team Cups)
  • After each qualifying session, 1 point will be awarded for pole position
  • Guest drivers are ineligible to score points
  • A leaderboard dead heat will be resolved as follows:
    By considering the number of wins
    By considering the number of second places, and so on
    If still tied, the best position in the final race will be the determining factor

Race Success Ballast

A system of Race Success Ballast weight handicaps will be applied to drivers after each round based on the classification.
The Race Success Ballast weight will be applied after a race and will be effective for the driver’s next race only.
There will be no Race Success Ballast applied in the first round of the season as no round precedes it.
Race Success Ballast will be applied as follows:

  • 1st: 50 kg
  • 2nd: 35 kg
  • 3rd: 20 kg

Driver Weight Equalization

A weight ballast will be applied to ensure that all drivers, in full gear, weigh at least 80 kg.
