Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup shifts Zhuhai dates to May 3-4

  • Dates brought forward by organisers after May Day holiday announcement in China
  • Bumper crowds expected for rounds three and four at popular track
  • Cup set for triumphant Zhuhai return after four-year absence

Beijing, April 15, 2019 – The dates for rounds three and four of the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup have been brought forward by one day to May 3-4 to attract what are expected to be bumper crowds at the popular 4.319km Zhuhai International Circuit in Southern China. The Chinese government recently announced an extension to the traditional May Day holiday from three days to four, and race organisers responded with the date change to allow holidaymakers to enjoy the motorsport bonanza.

The Zhuhai track became China’s first-ever permanent motorsport facility when it opened its doors in 1996, and it has since become the epicentre of motorsport in the burgeoning Greater Bay Area, attracting competitors and supporters from neighbouring Hong Kong, Macau, Shenzhen and Guangzhou and far beyond. The Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup is set to make a triumphant return there after a four-year absence, this time with its all-privateer line-up, the mighty 2019 evolution
Audi R8 LMS GT3 and the powerful, sporty Audi R8 LMS GT4.

The Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup has prime slots on the busy race programme. After two free practice sessions on Thursday, May 2, qualifying for round three of the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup is set for Friday morning, with the first of two 30-minute races beginning at 14:25 the same day. An early morning qualifying session for round four on Saturday is followed by the race at 12:40 (all times UTC +8).

Both rounds will be live streamed on the Cup’s website and Facebook page along with Chinese portals IFENG, PPTV and more.

The Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup is operated by Audi Sport customer racing Asia.

The series is supported by HONOR, Pirelli, Castrol EDGE, adidas motorsport, SPACE PLUS, IFENG and CTVS.
