Beijing, March 4, 2020 – Martin Rump and Weiron Tan return for another shot at the GT World Challenge Asia title with Audi Sport Asia Team Absolute. The silver-graded duo won two races in the series together in 2019 on their way to a sixth place finish in the final standings. The pair, both recently announced as Audi Sport Asia drivers for 2020, will be looking to build on their experience together with the Audi R8 LMS as Asia’s leading multi-marque GT series enters its fourth season.
“Martin and Weiron were a potent force at almost every round of last season’s GT World Challenge Asia", said Martin Kuehl, Director Audi Sport customer racing Asia. “Together with Audi Sport Asia Team Absolute, they have the potential to develop into top contenders for the 2020 campaign.”
In GT World Challenge Asia’s 2019 season, Rump and Tan won overall races in Fuji and Shanghai and took two additional podiums at Buriram and Fuji.
Estonian Rump has competed in all three previous seasons of GT World Challenge Asia, taking fourth place in the championship alongside Cheng Congfu in 2018 in an Absolute Racing prepared Audi R8 LMS.
Tan, meanwhile, made his series and Audi R8 LMS debut last year, quickly getting to grips with the car having competed in LMP2 machinery the previous year in the World Endurance Championship to race-winning effect.
In addition to contesting the 2020 overall GT3 title, Rump and Tan will be eligible for GT World Challenge Asia Silver Cup honours.
GT World Challenge Asia kicks off at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia before visits to Thailand’s Chang International Circuit and then Japan’s Suzuka Circuit and Fuji Speedway. The 11-race series then closes out with two trips to Shanghai, China, the second of which being the three-hour Shanghai888 endurance event.
