  • Pro-Am pairing Cheng Congfu and Anthony Liu confirmed for China GT Championship
  • Cheng Congfu to be entered in Macau Grand Prix GT Cup
  • Audi R8 LMS GT3 to be run by long-time Audi partner Absolute Racing

Beijing, April 24, 2021 – FAW-VW Audi Racing Team has announced a strong Pro-Am line up for the 2021 China GT Championship: Audi Sport Asia driver Cheng Congfu and Anthony Liu, one of China’s most accomplished privateer drivers. The season is set to close at the Macau Grand Prix with Cheng Congfu returning to the legendary street race he last contested with the team in 2016.

“This year FAW-VW Audi will launch a number of high performance Audi road cars in the Chinese market. With the full season customer racing campaign from FAW-VW Audi, the full story of Audi performance will be brought to fans all over China in the ‘Year of the Red Rhombus’”, said Alexander Blackie, Manager of Audi Sport customer racing Asia. “We cannot wait to see the pairing of Cheng Congfu and Anthony Liu shoot for the China GT Championship title with the R8 LMS this year.”

As well as representing a powerful Pro-Am title contender for the 2021 season, the campaign sees the FAW-VW Audi Racing Team reunite with Cheng for the first time since 2017 when they finished third in the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup together. A total of three seasons with the Cup, FAW-VW Audi Racing Team and Cheng also took the Teams’ title in 2015, with Cheng runner-up in the Drivers’ standings that year.

Cheng Congfu is one of China’s most successful professional racing drivers. Having competed in the DTM and FIA World Endurance Championship, he became the first ever Chinese driver to take a class podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A longstanding Audi race car driver, Cheng has vast experience aboard the Audi R8 LMS GT3.

Anthony Liu has also earned an impressive CV over the past decade. He is a master of his home track, the Shanghai International Circuit, where he won both races in the 2019 season Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup. Liu is also a GT World Challenge Asia race-winner. Amongst his most successful campaigns are his championship-runner up titles in the 2017/18 Asian Le Mans Series (LMP2) and the 2014 season of the GT Asia Series (GT3).

Cheng and Liu are no strangers to the China GT Championship either, having made their debut together back in 2017 at the Shanghai International Circuit, when they took victory in only their second race as team mates.

The FAW-VW Audi Racing Team entry will be run by Absolute Racing, one of Asia’s most successful motorsport outfits. The team has achieved multiple championship and race wins across the region and beyond.

Fans across China will have multiple opportunities to see Cheng and Liu in action as they race for victory over the coming seven months. Following the forthcoming pre-season test, the 2021 China GT Championship is slated to travel to Ningbo International Speedpark, the Shougang Motorsport Valley in Hebei Province, Shanghai International Circuit, the Wuhan Street Circuit, and the Zhuhai International Circuit. The GT Cup of the 68th Macau Grand Prix is provisionally scheduled for November 18-21.
